Question of the Day!

Okay, in Germany things were a bit different when I went to Elementary School... looooong, looooong ago.

First: of course, AMPLE reading time & story telling / imagining which we had in German.

Second: Sachkunde, which roughly translates to Expertise. There we went on field trips and gathered plants, mushrooms, etc. and learned to tell the good ones from the poisonous ones. The same with insects. Basic environmental issues. But here most, the food-finding / classifying aspect, and also basic carpentry like building bird houses.

Third: Handarbeitskurs. Yeah, weird. Then I dreaded it; today, I know I was such a moron. I would've learned how mend clothes, sew on buttons, knit pullovers and socks for cold winters, and not have to buy them / have them repaired by friends who were smarter than I or professionals. I still have the oddball dolls / potholders / scarves my mom knit / crocheted for my course.

Fourth: Okay, that I rather wished for: English rather than French. Okay, the latter is smarter when you grow up at the French border, I know, but French sucks (except the food).
