Recess at work: The Post Maintenance unit at Ft Devens, MA, used to take 1/2 hr in the middle of their shift and do whatever (smoke 'n' joke, tetherball, basketball, etc.).

This was in addition to their lunch break.

If you brought equipment requiring work during their recess, you waited until they were back at work to accept the work order. (I swear their recess time changed.)

This was in the 80s, before the false concepts of downsizing and multitasking became orders of the day.
