At different times in my life I’ve been each one of those. Working as a consulting engineer I could set my own hours most of the time and if I had to drive far, 50 miles in LA, I’d leave at 3:00am and come home at noon to avoid traffic. Working on the Polaris submarines I’d sometimes pull a 24on/24off period of work when we’d do the sea trials.
But now, at 80, I find I enjoy that extra hour or two just lying in bed and watching the world flit by with the squirrels and birds, mostly Cardinals and Mocking Birds, in a big tree outside a large bedroom window. I love spring and the resurgence of life I get to see out that window.
My partner is always up and out by 6:00 or 6:30 and she encourages me to enjoy my lie-a-bed.
