Living in Luxembourg, I have a mesh of languages around me and in my head. Sometimes me talking sounds like switching through a linguistic Gear Box in real-time across German, French, Luxembourgish, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and back. Like with the car's gear, you sometimes ram in the wrong gear.
Sometimes I speak three different languages in one bloody sentence! My English sounds accordingly – and all other languages except German, my native tongue – as well.
When I hit the US in fall, I'll make many native speakers' eardrums crumble out of their ears.
