The Last Assignment © Andre Michael Pietroschek, all rights beyond display on the websites reserved A haunting in this scientific age, the memories this night brought on. Rejoice, oh dearest sanity, for my mind once more has won. The crimes were fierce and bloody was the fight we had to brave. When you wake in the hospital, your father will rest in his grave. But, rejoice nonetheless, oh younger one, as the bad guys are finally undone. Your daddies last surviving allies had made sure that this is won. The road now feels like kicking horses, as a wounded wreck I am by now. But, the red bridge is before us, and the road's clear of ice & snow. Don't blame yourself, go live your life, and make your parents proud. And, if the Sheriff ever asks, protecting the family was all this was about. Stand with your mother, strong, until the funeral ordeal is done. My last assignment ends with this, retirement, here I finally come! |
