Some GLBT books I've read and enjoyed. Of course, Tales of the City has to be on the list. The PBS adaptation is also worth watching. The Lord Won't Mind is a gay romance novel from the 60s--daring for showing gays in a positive way. The Front Runner is almost a retelling of Romeo and Juliette, but with a gay track star and his coach. Like People in History is a mulit-generational romance. In fact, Felize Picanno has written a number of books with gay protagonists. Numbers is another classic. Not a book, but a made-for-TV movie is Doing Time on Maple Drive. Then there's The Ritz. Rita Morena won Tony for the role she reprises in the movie. This is available on Amazon Prime as well as the DVD listed below. Morena, F. Murray Abraham, and a VERY young Treat Williams, and the rest of the cast make this well worth watching. Moreno and Abraham are over-the-top hilarious. Making Love features a married doctor played by Michael Ontkean who gets caught making love to playboy Harry Hamlin. Kate Jackson also stars as Ontkean's wife. The movie fizzled, but it's really realistic--especially the dialogue between Ontkean and Jackson after she catches him with a man. In addidtion to the DVD below, it's available on Amazon Prime. I'm sure there are more...these are just the ones that came first to mind. Max Griffin Please visit my website and blog at https://new.MaxGriffin.net |
