I've successfully completed NaNo three times with 50-60K word drafts (and unsuccessfully didn't complete it more times than that). 50K isn't really novel length, but the idea is you have something you can edit and, hopefully, expand on.

Unfortunately for me, I haven't done much editing on any of them... yet.
