After looking things over, I decided I preferred the bigger revision that Masktrix proposed. The light edit, similar to what rugal suggested, would work okay, but the bigger revision, which is now posted, fits a little better with the continuity established elsewhere. It also justifies more choices—five of them now!—at the end of the revised chapter.

The sequel chapter had to be nuked, however.
