Summer time 2020

the summer of 2020
began late spring
with the continuing deaths
of the corona virus
and the economy cratering
as the world ground to a stop
100 dead Americans
35 million unemployed
then simmering unrest
boiled over
with the brutal murder
of a black man
live on TV
and the cities erupted
chaos loomed

Chaos loomed as the police state responded
with calls for a brutal take down
of the looters and violent thugs
that hijacked the peaceful protests
calling for justice
and all we can see is more chaos
more hatred, more violence, and more deaths
as the summer of hate emerges
to overwhelm us all with hate and division
will we survive this summer
of our discontent
what will our country look like
after this summer turmoil
fades into historical amnesia
