Welcome to the site. You bring up a good point that many writers are terrible marketers. Maybe not in the sense of creating an effective ad campaign, but in the execution. I think in the business world there are two primary distributions of people: producers and schmoozers. They need each other. A schmoozer without a product is just a burnout gambler making promises to people passing by on the sidewalk. Likewise, a dude with a ton of great ideas/output but only four walls to tell it to is ... crazy. A hermit. Some kinda societal outcast. Just a schmoozer away from being the next big thing. Well, low to medium thing. He might get comped for his time at least.
My point is to find that person or persons who can bring your excellence into their network.
