Perhaps ALTO wants to sell people's memories so people will begin to understand the value of human lives.
I dunno just a thought.

I like the idea of having the technology be advanced, yet simple, I think it looks more realistic. This story reminds me of the movie Altered Carbon, you could check it out if you want.
