I started writing poetry in my twenties and published three poetry booklets with 1000 volumes each, which was huge in my opinion. The years that followed were filled with working and studying and dreaming of a life as a writer. Now, I have taken up writing in English and my days are filled with joy and fulfillment. Although I am writing less poetry and more short stories lately, I still consider myself a poet and a writer. Luckily, I have some publications of short stories in Dutch print and in American journals. After a hiatus of nearly a year, my Muse has decided to return, so my writer's block seems gone. Hopefully, I will continue to write here at WdC. Why do I write? I wouldn't know what to do with myself otherwise. The only time I am happy is when I am busy writing or thinking and doing research for my writing. It's like breathing, I need it.
