Ah, Steampunk....

I didn't know we had a room for SP here. I'm on BrassGoggles.com which is a forum dedicated to steampunk.

You can google up "what is Steampunk" and get some hits. Sirkin has some good articles on the subject.

I've got a short story in my portfolio called Wheels of Progress that is steampunk.

Short of it is this:
it is 1800s style/setting applied to science-fiction/fantasy. The Wild Wild West TV show is said to best exemplify it (the movie of the same name to a lesser extent).

So all the fashion is 1800s. the tech is made from wood, brass, etc with victorian styling, but it does "modern" or science fiction things. So imagine a space pistol designed by a victorian aesthetic, rather than the guys making the latest Aliens movie. It's going to look old-timey.
