I give it 5 stars The moon waltzed me home On ribbons of galvanized light. I strayed from the traffic, Keeping careful not to be Blinded by headlights or thoughts To throw me off balance. I carved my path Where no one had walked; Creating stories and poems From the lexicon of words Swirling inside me. I gazed at Christmas lights Half hidden behind closed curtains Wondering where the time had gone again. Time rides on rocket ships while Age keeps the beat Of unwound clocks. I am a terrible student Of life's lessons. The moon waltzed me home As zither sounds floated On carbon wings through my imagination. I swayed to the music they played Hoping no one would think me Drunk or crazy. Old autumn leaves Cloaked the sidewalk, feeling Like a blanket of silk under foot. If it wasn't so cold, I would dance barefoot To amuse the moon and all His relatives. I probably amuse them anyway The way I tend to make wishes On stars that I can surely never touch. Cold nights sound friendly to anxious ears. The moon waltzed me home While most everyone else slept In quiet houses in quiet beds Having quiet dreams. Perhaps they will subconsciously Detect my journey and begin To dream in color and noise. I smiled at the way the trees Looked illuminated by the night As they bowed to greet me in passing. I stole bits of hedges and shubbery To give to the Faeries Who protect my home while I am away. I want to take them water From the spillway but I have Nothing to keep it in other Than my memory (Which will have to suffice). It's cold, But it should be colder. The water should be frozen and The ground should be covered in snow. Perhaps another night. For now, the ribbons of galvanized moonlight And zither music will have to do. |
