Let's discuss poetry, With the theme of fantasy. |
Well, I'm not the most experienced poet, but when I do decide to write some poetry, I always read it out loud afterwards. It's the best way, besides getting feedback, to figure out where the rhythm is off and if there are any quirky lines with stilted writing (it works for prose as well). Next I try to see if the meaning is clear. Beautiful writing is pretty useless if no one understands what you're writing about. Then, I look to see if the poem creates strong images. Finally, you can start over, checking the rhythm again and tweak everything until you're somewhat satisfied. This is of course just my way of doing, but I hope it can give you some inspiration.
