Not very familiar with his work but just read his life history and he sounds like quite a character. Actually whole family seems to have a lot of emotional depth :) Sounds more like fighting Irish than romantic French.

Massachusetts is a wonderful place for writers! I loved it there and would have gladly stayed. Amherst was one of my favorite towns. So much history in that state.
