No, you aren't ranting, but you're on to something important, I think.
All my characters become real, after I've gotten to know who they are and watched them act in scenes. Weird maybe, but I also feel their feelings, whatever their gender.
Don't worry about talking to your characters. That is, in fact, a story writing advice. You must be doing great with your project. Congrats! *Smile*
