Islands are a bit of land in the midst of the sea, usually. Can you imagine "islands held in the sky by magic" instead might allow for water worlds falling free? They might be islands of sea suspended by surface tension plummeting to some future doom, or not. Creatures from one water globule might reach another and return to their own water world if they fall relatively close to one another. Worlds might collide, one absorbing another. Perhaps the entirety of the watereen worlds were once unified and they are torn asunder by changes in the pnuemous between.
