And my parents wonder why I have so many books. Due to my divorce and moving I've had to make hard decisions on which books to keep and which to "discard". I'm still left with two large bins full of books. My mom thinks I should get rid of the vast majority of them, my father's a little more understanding.
The fact is, of course, that as writers we often read what we write. And we read a lot of it. We also like to read genres we don't write to get new ideas. Not to mention all those other books on writing. So why should we part with all these beloved books which have sparked our imaginations and given us new ideas of our own. Especially if we want to refer back to a specific scene to see how another author may have handled it.
We are always learning and growing. And I agree that if we want honest reviews we will thicken our skins and take them all in appreciation. Look at them honestly and see where we might improve our work. Insight and perspective is always a welcome thing from others, it's why WDC exists.
