         Melissa sat down at her computer. Finally, she thought. I’m rid of that idiot Tom, I’ve worked out, and now I’ll write. I’m going to get this book finish, regardless of what Tom says. I can’t write a book, no-one will read it… I don’t care whether he says these things or not, because he wants me to spend the time on him instead. Too bad I don’t like him.
         She looked at what she’d written. Not enough by a long stretch… she’d had so much time but so much was wasted on Tom. Only ten pages in a month. Awful. “No matter what I wanted to do, the fact is I’ve only done ten pages in a month. It’s unacceptable, and it’s because of a boy I don’t even like.”
         “You don’t finish a book this way,” she said aloud. “I’m being trapped into underperforming because of a rejected suitor.” Tears in her eyes, she remembered the idiot pinching her arm, sitting in her office and refusing to leave, calling her twenty times a day. “Hopeless, hopeless.”
         “That’s right,” said a strange voice.
         Melissa gaped. Sitting on her keyboard was a little green man. “You could still have the guy, but instead you have this crazy idea you’re the next Jane Austen, so you won’t even talk to him… You can’t even finish a book, but you won’t let yourself have a relationship.” His voice was annoyingly like Tom’s. “Makes no sense to me.”
         “I don’t like the jerk! I’ve filed a complaint against him!”
         “But why?”
         “Because he bothers me.”
         “He does it because he likes you! Why are you trying to write a book instead of going out?”
         Melissa picked up the little green man and flung him across the room. “Get out of my house! Now!”
