Discuss all things relating to writing and genre. |
I feel very much the same way. I like my job, but in the end my dream still is to make a living writing fantasy/sci-fi. I don't think my girlfriend or the few friends who knows I'm writing understands that this is more than a hobby for me, but I guess they will once I've been writing for a few years and has some great writing to show for it. I also find that writing and reading are the main things I have to do to improve my writing at this point, but at the same time there are so many people out there who can help me improve by providing advice and/or feedback. I still watch the Brandon Sanderson videos, since he offers so much good advice and I haven't found anyone who offers guidance to the same degree for free. I also watched most of the Crash course videos though mostly for their entertainment value (I didn't even realize that John Green was an author until after having watched the videos ![]() I too hoped writing.com was more of a training site when I first joined, since I'm not living in an English speaking country and writing isn't really established as a community thing over here (with writing groups and creative writing classes), so I don't have the opportunity to join a writing group either. However, I do feel the fantasy and science fiction society provides a good balance between socializing and writing discussions. |
