Dear Joto-Kai,

"the reader only needs to see that the character cares." Though I do agree with the spirit of this statement I do not think it is, in fact, true. After all, many people give a rip about how large Kim Kardashian's (sp?) butt is. By reflection, in other media, I discovered that it was large enough to block up the Internet.

...And yet I have no interest in it. Pixilated or otherwise this fact only serves to make me worry about humanity.

How do you write a genius? How do you write an idiot? How do you write a middle aged father of two who drives around in a little truck but dreams of writing about more than that? And have someone listen.

No, the source of the question was the point, not the actual question. I have been listening to Orson Scott Card's Ender books about genius children, and of genius children using message boards to take over the world, and now Children of the Mind about individuals interacting beyond even thought into and out of the world of mere mortals to touch the outside where spirit children (?) wait to be imbodied and a completely unique individual can make instantaneous travel a reality.

I have to say that at times I think how very absurd to think that I am privy to the very central action of the entire universe of raman life. That is as I read Card's book. At the next moment I am moved to tears by the human emotion. Why did Card feel he needed to write about Ender when all he had to write was something where we knew the Character cared?

Likely this doesn't carry the conversation very far along. I'm interested in your gem. Perhaps you would share it, or direct me to it. I have imagined some things myself. Not all of them involve genius or idiots or even things beyond an ordinary only a bit apart from my own very ordinary one.

Sorry that so long a pondering rendered so very little.
