Come on in to discuss the mechanics of writing |
Not to worry, Stephen. Matt would punctuate this the same way. The only difference would be the style of quotation marks he would use (maybe). The answer to your question is fairly straightforward. It will be punctuated like so: "What do I do?" I asked. In situations like this, the question mark is not terminal. It simply signals to the reader that the quoted piece of dialogue is a question, while the rest of the sentence is not. Exclamation points can behave the same way. Periods, however, cannot.
