Question : dilemma

I hav almost 22000 words in as I was on a roll mainly because my storyline was based on a true story with twists and turns making it into a fictional story. Problem I have encountered is this: in writing it( as it is in sections as parts come to me, as most books do) the pieces sorts that are based on real life events are sparking emotions/feelings that I am not sure what to do with. Do I just purge them onto the pages and hope I can deal with them?? Or do I table the whole thing for now and find another story line altogether? I'm perplexed
