Hey Ann,

Perhaps the spider is one of your animal totems. You have that same instinct as me and want to respect the spider's right to live. When I see a really big spider, I just imagine how long it too for it to get that big, how many predators it evaded, and it always irritates me when one of the kids say "kill it!"

My usual response is "why?"

There never really have a good answer for that question, and "just because" doesn't qualify. I remind them that we'd be overrun with insects if it weren't for spiders, and that logic works for the moment.

Talking about the elements -- I think I love the rain most of all. I like rainy days when it's dark outside and the lights are on inside. It's cozy, and I particularly like a rainy Christmas day. Everyone thinks I'm nuts for wanting a rainy Christmas. Although, if it rains for long enough, it's good to see the sun again.
