I still haven't mastered the art of following threaded conversations/entries, but it is more familiar now that we've had the ice cream social. I have emotionally acknowledged the most important message I've learned to date: The word 'modern/white man/humanity" NAMES assigned to the First Peoples around the world needs to change. Here in America, the "Indian" term has always been shameful 'namecalling' to the Native Americans, The First People of America. Similar names have been applied by 'modern/white man/humanity" to other First People across the world. Have we ever asked them if they wish to be called what we have called them officially for centuries? My first nugget I've learned here will prevent the "I-word" from my mouth or onto my writings from now on. I will teach others not to use the "I-word" and will peruse all my writings to see if I have ever used that word and delete it; change it. That commitment is now in my soul. I'd like to read the National Geographic story about Finn's cousin featured as a fisherman using the olden way of fishing. I'm interested in learning more about 'the circle of life' referred to by Cissy in one of her responses; At 76, I'd like to know more of how it applies to me, past and future; it's a concept I've tried to understand in the past; now maybe I will learn from the true source of the belief/experience. I'm fascinated with the possibility of learning enough of a new language to actually write with it. I studied Spanish in my school and college years, but that was for 'education' whereas, learning what Cissy will teach, a language that will touch my life, my soul. I'm anxious for class discussions as we assimilate all that we learn here. Ann sometimes called "GrAnny" or Gran-Ann.
