“Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny.” - C.S Lewis Every one of us will go through difficult times in life. Some will have to face harder circumstances than most, but I have always believed that you have two choices when you come up against a hardship in life. You can either allow it to tear you down or you can use it to build you up. That by no way means that if you choose to use it to build you up that your life will be peachy. We live in a broken world and as a consequence, we have pain and struggles. However, if you are able to find the positive within the negative, it is a gift in itself. It may help relieve some of the burden if you can find something to hold onto in order to hope and strive for a better future. The concept of struggling is something that used to confuse me. I would look around at people who didn't know the pain I was going through and they didn't know what others faced. They were happy and laughing while others mourned loved ones. I couldn't understand how struggling could be anything but bad. However, as I grew up, I realized that it's the hardships in life that help us to either be strengthened or they will help to break us. It's our responsibility to respond accordingly to that. I hate that people have to struggle and fight and face pain. However, I appreciate the fact that it means something so much more than that moment. What we go through in life isn't necessarily for us but for us to help others. We can take our pain in life and turn it around to show others hope and something better because we understand what they are going through while others may not. That's why I love this quote from C.S Lewis. It reminds us that everything in life goes beyond the here and now. Our pain, our struggles, our loss can help us to find the place we are meant to be in this life. Sometimes it may be in a major way, but other times it may be a positive influence in a single life that helps them to find hope. |
