I've received both same-day rejections and same-day acceptances. I think the fastest was a poem I submitted that contained Beatles lyrics. Publishing the poem would probably have been copyright infringement. My rejection came within a couple of hours. Needless to say, I never resubmitted that particular poem.
One of my longest waits, and certainly the weirdest, was with Calyx. (I've got a record of the exact times here because, at the time, I griped about it to a friend in another forum.) I got a form rejection after waiting 324 days -- and this from a publication that charges a reading fee! But then a couple days later, I got an email saying they'd sent the wrong letter by mistake, and what they actually meant was that they were holding my submission as a "finalist for consideration." Then a personal rejection at 340 days.
