Daily Flash Fiction Challenge

The master chef opened the doors of the oven. The contents were just about done, so he closed the door and went his other chores in the kitchen.

“You’re making another one?” his assistant asked.

“Boss’ orders. I think I’ve got the recipe right this time.”

“How many have you already made and you didn’t get any of them right? A billion billion?”

“Maybe not that many. “

“What makes you think it’s right this time?”

“I put a lot of extra stuff in the. You’ll see, I’m right.”

The assistant looked at the master chef warily. “If you mess this one up, he’s not going to be happy. In fact, he’ll probably fire you and take over the job himself.”

“Don’t you worry about that. It’s going to be perfect.”

A small chime sounded and the master chef ran to the oven. He reached in and took out his latest creation. The assistant frowned as the chef held out a molten ball of rock and metal for his approval.

“What do you think?”

“I’m not impressed.”

“Well, get out of my way. I’ve got to get this in place before it starts to cool.”

“Where are you going to put it?”

The master chef thought for a second and then had his assistant remove an earlier attempt. He replaced it with his new creation. “Right here.”

“The last one didn’t work there.”

About that time, the boss walked in. “How’s it going? Is it done?”

“Yes, sir,” the master chef said. “I’ve just put the new planet into place for you.”

“Where?”

“It’s the third one from this sun right here,” he said pointing. “So what are you going to call this one?”

“I was thinking about Earth.”

“Earth,” the master chef said. “That’s got a ring to it.”
