Impossible to go back in time as it's already happened. Impossible to go to the future, as it has not happened yet. Best use of a real time machine is as a fancy television to view light particles from the past. I'd probably seek out the truth in things questionable historically; in fact, I'd probably go back to biblical times just to see what the truth really is. I would also like to take a look at the universe's origin, and the formation of the earth. I would also use the ability of the time machine to view light particles to search for life in the universe. I would be unable to interact, but I would know.
