Thank you Eric! That certainly gives me a lot to think about. I like the thoughts about misdirection and splitting the command. I've sent Tate off to destroy the stone (yes, you're right, it's non-portable) with the hope that Marek won't return before he realizes that Tate is at the Keep and thus his source of power. I can't decide yet if Marek needs to begin to attack Ev's forces in Tate's absence... then realize that his stone is under attack. Maybe that would make him guilty of the typical antagonist hubris... the only problem is that I don't have any chapters from his (or Garrett's) POV... so I'm not sure I can adequately explain his motivations or reasoning without making him seem like an idiot. It seems that the characters are kind of running the show anyway, so with a good starting point, I guess I'll just let them figure it out and try not to make it too easy on them.
