I guess writing is emotional in general. Chances are, to write about what you have lived, you haven't given yourself enough distance from the actual incidents, and they are giving you strong feelings. This would be what those "who know" would say.

On the other hand, my characters are totally fictional as is their story, and I feel like I am living their lives inside their bodies. This has happened with every novel I wrote. Go figure!
