After a mad, brutal rush, I have matched up to my phantom self of 2011 and finished my novel at 52,404 words! Today was the last day and I was at 38,000, and I just decided that I absolutely had to finish, no matter what. It was 12:00 AM at the time, 7 November had rolled in, and I intended to stay awake until I was finished.
It was brutal. I despaired many times and procrastinated even more. I timed adding ten words a minute. I fantasized about how if I wrote a certain a mount of words per minute I'd finish. I added words, I minimized. Repeated the process. I kept on checking my word count and my stats changed from the ominous "666 words per day till you finis" to 300 then 200.
And then afternoon came, and I stopped checking my word count. My novel just unfurled itself in a not-so-graceful finish that was still the result of sudden inspiration. I realized that ironically this lumbering beast I was sick to death of was something that I'd miss. I worried about the characters.
And then it was done. Mixed feelings, but mostly happiness.
