A place for the Lords and Ladies to discuss their interests. |
Right. I found an offie and shifted focus to the Isle of Mull and bought a bottle of "Ledaig" very nice drop too. Now finished t5he Chronicles of the Black Company as narrated by Croaker, and the Ledaig. Now, I did find the story gripping in its own way even though it lacked a certain grace in the language. Well you know my penchant for good prose of the Tolkien sort in Fantasy, so don't chide me for that.It read to me as though the author writes YA stuff perhaps including some modern tales, or at least tales set in the modern era.and has moved to a more adult tale, He uses a fair amount of modern idiom and has clearly set the tale on an alternative Earth. It has all the classic setbacks and obstacles which the hero, in this case the Black Company, has to overcome. I liked the burgeoning romance between Croaker and the Lady. For a while I actually thought he was going to shag the old lady, but alas no such thing happened. Talking about sexual content, there was very little and only briefly alluded to. I am not fond of reading the down and dirty in the literature I read, so that was a plus. I would read this author again and may look out for some more of his work. I may be a while getting to it as I am re-reading TLOTR just now. Thanks for the suggestion Eliot it was not something I would ordinarily pick up in the bookstore but hey life is full of pleasant surprises.
