"I hope you understand why I'm waiting," James said. "It's hard to," Rana admitted. "Rana, the first time I saw you, you were sobbing your heart out. Then I find out you need money from art class. I need to make sure that you are ready." "But how am I supposed to know when that is?" "I don't know," James sighed. "I just don't want you to love me for the wrong reasons." "Rana, it's good to see you," Helen said. Rana was about to reply when she saw Helen. "It's good to see you too, Helen," Rana smiled. "How are you? How's your dad?" Helen asked. She hadn't heard the news and chalked Rana's absence up to studying for school. Rana swallowed. "Dad was killed in a car crash a few weeks ago," she said softly, looking down at her hands. Helen's jaw dropped. "I'm so sorry," she said. James let go of her hand and put his arm around her. "Rana, I'm here." Rana moved close to James. "It's hard," she admitted. "I'll get you some tea," Helen said in an embarrassed tone. James turned and put his other arm around her. "It must be so hard, Rani." He tucked her close. Rana nodded. "It is. I miss him. He was all that I had." James kissed the top of her head. "He's watching over you. I can feel it." Helen came back with tea for Rana. "What can I get for you, young man?" Rana smiled weakly. "Thank you, Helen." "Something warm," James asked politely. "Anything you want today, Rana. It's on the house." Helen returned her smile. "Thanks, could we have some menus?" She smiled. "Of course, I'll get them. We have fresh mangoes today too." She knew how much Rana loved them. She hurried off and returned with menus. Rana smiled hugely at the thought of fresh mangos. "Thanks, Helen." Helen handed them the menus and excused herself giving them time to look. It didn't take James long to find his crepes on the menu. "Here we go." Rana smiled. "The crepes are good." James nodded and patted his stomach. "Good, I'm starved." He looked around. "I'm going to use the facilities, be right back." |
