"Yeah," she wiped her eyes and sipped her chai. "Thank you for the chai,' she said. James patted her hand. "It's good to help you and you should share a burden." "It's not easy," she whispered. "Would it hurt too much to tell me about him?" James asked softly. He reached across and pulled his drawing tablet close and began sketching absently, adding tiny birds to the vines. Rana smiled weakly and sipped her tea. She then began to tell him of her father. James listened carefully nodding and responding in appropriate places. "He sounds like he was a great man. I wish I could have met him. I bet it was hard on him losing his wife so young." "It was....but he doted on me..." "I can see that you were raised well though, not spoiled like some of the girls that go here." James looked up from his artwork and smiled at her. "Would you mind if I drew you?" "He always taught me well." she replied. "I wouldn't mind...." James beamed and closed his book. "You pick the place. Where's your very favorite place?" "Here on campus you mean?" "Er, yes," James said. "Unless there's someplace close outside campus you prefer more. I have class in the morning." "No...Where the rocks are at the creek. I go there often to think or read." "Want to go now?" James asked. "The cups are ready to go." He held the cup up to show her and gave her a crooked smile. "Um...alright...that sounds good. "Did you have some other plans?" James asked, standing so she could get out of the booth. "No...I'm done for the day." James offered his free hand to her. "Well, you look great so it's a good time to draw you." |
