Ayanna sighed then finished the quiz and saw the last question. She giggled at her foolishness and got up to turn her test in. She had a different class next so went on her way. Rana was laying on the stones by the water, reading her book silently. "Rana, I thought you were still in India." Jayesh moved close to her and squatted down. "How long have you been back?" Rana looked up fromm her book.."Not long...about two weeks now." He looked surprised. "Two weeks? I figured you would have a lot of things to tie up there like waiting for the will and all." He brushed a hand through his hair nervously. "I see you are still mourning him." "I am, but they said they'd contact me...I didn't know how long it would take and I am; he was my father and I loved him." Jayesh tilted his head. "Usually just a couple of days, Rana." He pointed to her book. "What are you reading?" "Well not in this case I guess." She held it up."A Little Princess." Jayesh blinked twice then smiled at the title. "It's a great movie. I haven't read the book though." "Nothing beats the book," she replied. Jayesh sat down fully next to her. "I can imagine so. I loved the book of the Langoliers by Stephen King." "That was rather interesting," she admitted. Jayesh sighed. It was an area that they totally differed in was their taste in books. He knew she was shy and that he had a lot of work ahead of him if she would agree, but he felt she was worth it. "How's dance class going?" "Busy," she admitted. "Very." Jayesh reached over and brushed a piece of her hair backward. "Rana, I was thinking that maybe...you might consider...it's a bad time and I know that..." He sighed and let it trail off. Rana looked confused. "What?" she asked. "I thought maybe you might like to go out with me," he said quickly hoping to get it out before she said no. Rana's jaw dropped."I uh....I'm...youre nice Jayesh, but its a really bad time...I'm not ready right now...there are too many other things I need to deal with right now. Jayesh's cheeks turned a little red. "I understand," he said softly. "Listen, if you need anything, let me know." "Thank you Jayesh. " She kissed his cheek. "And I am sorry." Jayesh smiled at her kiss. "Thank you for not being mean about it, Rana." "Why would I be mean?" she asked. "Youve only been kind?" Jayesh licked his lips. "I haven't been too fortunate with asking girls out." "You just havent found the right girl yet, that's all." Jayesh gave her a weak smile. "Rana, you always know the right things to say." Rana smiled weakly. "Only saying the truth.? He rose and glanced at his watch. "I need to go so I can get to class. Call me if you need anything and check up on that will." "Thank you Jayesh and I will...Take care." Jayesh looked down at her and smiled. "I wish you only the best, Rana." He swallowed and moved away. "Thank you." she smiled weakly, not smiling due to her mourning and went back to her book as he left. Ayanna finished her next class and moved out, holding her bag against her chest. She wondered what Rana was up to as she moved back toward her housing. |
