I almost feel bad for posting again! Does anyone have an idea of what jobs would have been available during the early industrial revolution, around the time steam power was used as the primary source of power? My work in progress is Young Adult novel focusing on a dystopian society where basically the world is run by slaves. It's sort of an alternate history, if you will. I haven't yet decided if it will take place in this world or another, but either way it's similar to a city on the ocean in Europe during the early 1700s. So far I've come up with this: Blacksmith Seamstress / Tailor Farmer Miner Solider / Knight / Guard Engineer Medic Carpenter Lumberjack Traitor / Assassin Maid / Butler Sailor / Dock Worker Prostitute I know some of it sounds strange but, trust me, it'll work out. Anyone have any others to add? |
