Please leave a message and we'll get back to you... |
I was SEETHING after reading her review of my story, 'The Silver Comb'. It wasn't because of her suggestions for improvement, because those were actually very valid. It was because she felt the need to boast about her accomplishments as a writer. You know what? Great! I am very happy for you. But, a review is NOT the place to talk yourself up. Because, guess what? It isn't about you! I am NOT an editor for a publishing company. So, I could care less about your qualifications as a reviewer or as a writer. You do NOT have to prove yourself to me! Whether you write a thorough one page review or just give a little blurb telling me how you liked it- I am going to respect your opinion, whether it's positive or negative. I do have to admit though, when I receive a review from someone that talks up their accomplishments as a 'published writer' and their review is riddled with spelling and grammatical issues, their validity as a reviewer has automatically decreased for me. If you are going to correct me, shouldn't you be able to correct yourself? To err is human. I'm not perfect and I don't expect everyone to like what I write. I mean, you can't win 'em all, right? (Here is where my writer's ego is going to shine through.) But, am I wrong to expect a reviewer to focus on the task at hand (MY story) and not self promotion? We are all here for a reason. We want our stories/poems to be seen, to get feedback (whether it be positive or negative), and to learn from our mistakes and grow as writers. I never asked for your self-promoting cover letter. Because guess what? I don't care! Don't make my review about you...cause I am NOT you. We all have unique writing styles, please respect mine. The way Alice reviews 'feels' like she thinks she is better than you from the get-go. And who knows? Maybe she is. There IS a way to go about compiling a review that highlights more negative points than positive without completely shattering a person's dreams. A little tact goes a long way. I don't expect you to hold my hand- I want you to lay it on the line. Just don't be a total bitch about it. Yes, those tactful reviews ARE exhausting to write. But nine times out of ten, the person that you reviewed is grateful for the feedback they received. And that, my friends, is what it is all about... helping others. Not bashing their work ![]() That's just my two cents. You all know I love every single one of you and I respect all your opinions about E. But please don't bash him in the forum. Irregardless of how you feel about him, he is still a good friend of mine. And because he is not here to defend himself, I just don't think it's fair to do so. So if you could please refrain from doing so, it'd be greatly appreciated. Remember, there would be no HI if it weren't for that man.
