It was difficult to write the scene where Alex's dad beats his son in front of Thomas. Thomas is too scared to try to stop the beating. This will haunt him later on.

I totally forgot to describe the classroom. Yes, college life was far different then what it is today. Only the rich could afford university, and the students didn't sleep in class. OK, the falling asleep part is from my personal experiences. :)
