Sunrise classroom for posting assignments & discussion topics #2 (BLUE ROOM) |
Hi Sharky! I am guilty of this as well. However, it is because I write the way I speak and I use lots of filler words, adverbs, adjectives, you name it. I never say anything in 10 words that I can say in 100. I need to work on that, pare things down and choose the right words. I remember when I first was reading poetry in school, the instructor had us focus on the words that were chosen by the poet. A good poet she said, chooses each word specifically to convey their emotions. I thought that was ridiculous at the time, sounded too contrived and controlled for poetry. But, live and learn, I see the benefit now that I am trying to write poetry. Often I spit things out on a page and then go back and realize I could have chosen a better word and revise it. As far as finding a voice, I cannot create one from whole cloth. I have to have interacted with someone who sparked my interest or had the flavor of the character I want to write. Since I am such a sheltered child, I need to expand my horizons, else, all of my characters will end up being me. :) Blessings, Elaine \o/ ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
