I'm an outliner through and through. I always need to be able to see where I'm going and what's going to happen. For another book that I've been trying to write for the past couple of years, I have a complete outline with basically every event that's going to happen, key turning points in a character's feelings and bullet points on how the overall theme of the story is portrayed in certain events.
My outlines are never anything fancy. I basically write down the events in order and then go back through and put where I think the chapter breaks will be. My chapters don't always work out like that, so it's changeable. And sometimes I feel like an event doesn't fit so I'll just exclude it all together. But at least I know where I'm going and what I'm building it up to.
I usually do my outlines in Word. But with this new WriteItNow software, I may have to play around with how my outlines are going to go.
