I think your discussion topic brings up a good point. As a pilot/architect, sight and sound would be more developed than other sensory skills. I know when I fly I listen very carefully to the constant hum of the engines. (That's so I can tell the pilot in case I hear anything that sounds out of place.) Architecture has to develope sight, asthetics are an important part of drawing.
The old saying, "Write what you know," may come from that. A chef could describe taste and smell, a pilot/architect would be better are sight and sound. I wonder if a Doctor or Chiropractor, or possibly a seamstress would do well with touch.
I don't adhere to the rule, "write what you know." If I did I'd write the the very detective stories I find boring. (With a few exceptions).
