Sunrise classroom for posting assignments & discussion topics #2 (BLUE ROOM) |
1. Was is it difficult to complete the above assignment (part two) without ‘explaining’ or telling the situation? Mostly, I had no difficulty. I can condition myself to work under given set of restrictions, so, no major issue with me on this one. I just had to remember I had to record what I was seeing and hearing and note it in my note-book. That was easy enough. 2. Did the exercise trigger your imagination, make you want to write about any of the characters you reported on? I mainly kept my focus on recording the things. However at some points when I saw some woman talking animatedly or looking at something that I could not see from my position, it made me wonder what the exact cause of the events might be. I saw a woman looking back again and again as she was walking, then checking her cell-phone and that made me wonder what exactly she was waiting for...or fleeing from. The story could go either way. And then I checked my imagination to focus on the job at hand, i.e. recording the events. 3. Which of the 5 senses focused on in this lesson did you find easiest to use in your Part one of the assignment? Which is the toughest to add in a story? Well, I am weak at describing things and feelings. Since English is not my first language I have much difficulty describing things. Disregarding my lack of command over necessary words, I think I had maximum trouble using the taste words. Every time I had to write about it I had a strong urge to use the word ‘taste’ itself (which we are forbidden to do). I had to spend much time to actually think of some way to circumvent that word itself. Smell was also a little difficult, but no as much as taste. Going by my experience, I think I would say adding taste is toughest. But of course, I am not the best person to comment on this, with my poor vocabulary and all. 4. Take a moment and look at a few of your pieces in your portfolio. Now that you've conditioned your mind to focus on sensory details, do you see any areas in your work where you might apply what you've learned in this lesson? Explain why or why not. The assignment actually forced me to see my stories with an objective view. When I am writing the story I get so involved with it that the situation is real to me. But I forget that it might not be the same for my readers and I need to actually show them things. I plan to go back to each of my stories and revise them and find if I could do the visuals better.
