Excuse me, Jeremy. I failed to answer a question. You said: 'we, as imperfect humans, cannot forgive ourselves of our sins and clean ourselves. A Messiah is needed to save us from our sins. Is this true, Jesus? Are my words even making sense?'
Your words make perfect sense. The short answer is that humans ARE imperfect but they CAN become holy. A Messiah is needed to save you from your sins but you may become and remain holy through atoning of your sins under the law until such time as the Messiah dies for the sins of the world/man as God has promised. Did Abraham, Moses and such become holy? Were they holy men at any time, at the end of their lives? I would assert that my precious mother lives a holy life.
(OOC: It is believed by most Bible scholars that Joseph, Jesus' earthly father or stepfather, lived a holy life until he died and that he had passed on by the time of Jesus' crucifixion).
