(Maia sighs as she watches and listens once again to her companions debate and argue.)

Perhaps, friends, we should do as our guide says and retreat quickly to the cave. I, for one, do not wish to be caught by soldiers, they can be so difficult and are not usually the most intelligent of people and will not listen to reason.

Yes, I agree with Levi, Amos, perhaps you would be more able to discern what is going on here if you did leave the wine jug alone. My husband is prone to drinking much wine and I can say that he is much more amenable to my persuasions whilst drinking. Is it fear that leads you to drink? fear of the soliders, of punishment or of learning the truth? I understand that fear very well.

This talk of pride of life and resisting the temptation to argue our own point to prove ourselves right makes sense to me. In my culture, many people spend time arguing over this and that, the size of a hair on a gnat, the number of stars in the sky.... it seems that anything is up for debate. How many of the debaters are doing so for their own glory? I would say, almost all. And look at what we are doing here, we who have been drawn together by something we do not understand. Is Levi seeking to convince Amos? Am I resisting Levi's arguments out of pride? I do not know friends but I can see how relevant Joe's message is to us, even here right now in this cave.

Here is another thought. It is not uncommon for our many gods to take human form and come down amongst us, walk with us, interact with us. I do find this strange at all in Jesus, the son of the God of the Jews. What I do find interesting is this, our gods do so in order to sport with us, have congress with us, beget children on us and basically use us as their entertainment. Never do they come to sacrifice for us, be tested for us or suffer in any way for us as this Jesus is doing now.

Doesn't this make you wonder? want to believe?
