So what you're telling me is that we must do what the prophets did? Fast and pray? I know I saw mother and father fast and pray, but they never told us we had to do it as well. Father said he prayed that the Lord would bless his business and make it prosper. Mother said she prayed for guidance in raising her children, in particular me. She said fasting was not for children, though on that note father was silent. He didn't comment on it one way or the other, so I never thought about fasting or praying for anything. We always had everything we needed. We never went without any material blessing, as father called it. Father did say that we were always to thank the LORD God Jehovah for our many blessings, and mother and father listened to our prayers to make certain we did. Yes, I knew the stories about Elijah and Daniel and the fasting and praying they did for help from Jehovah, but I never needed any help for anything, at least not until my parents died, and then I never thought about it. I just did what mother told me to do, take care of the house and servants. My brother took care of the land and the laborers in the fields. I don't know if he ever fasted and prayed either. I never saw him. This is a new teaching for me, but concerning the situation we find ourselves in, I can see how necessary it would be to pray for Jehovah to keep us safe from the threat of the Romans. All this hiding and staying in the shadows except when we are in the middle of crowds of people like we were at the River Jordan, has left me in a state of near panic. You say this Jesus, the one John pointed to as our Messiah, went into the desert to pray and fast? Why would He do that if He's Messiah. Wouldn't He know what He needs to do? Isn't prayer and fasting for the sake of seeking help in time of trouble? What kind of trouble could He be in? He was just baptized. No one is after Him. No one followed Him into the desert to do Him any harm. Friend, you give me a lot to think about, and I don't have father to ask for clarification, so if you could be a little more clear about this prayer and fasting thing, I'll certainly do my best to do what God expects of me. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Nothing is impossible when God is in it.
