The message under the stone speaks of the temptation of pride. Now that this comes up, I realize yet another reason why I am drawn to John the Baptizer and to Jesus. They do not show pride. Since we only saw Jesus briefly, I do not know what it would be like to talk to him in person, but I have spoken with the Baptizer. And John, though he has many followers, does not show the sort of pride that Herod does, or our own scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees. Many of these (not all) are proud of their positions, power, wealth, or learning and feel superior to the rest of us--and, perhaps, superior to God. Perhaps that is why they do not worry very much about truly worshipping our God.
