(Maia remains silent as she watches and listens to the men. Their host spoke so passionately about his love for this Jehovah and she feels much respect for him even though his anger and frustration are bubbling forth like a torrent. This Amos and Jeremy speak in another way though. Their confusion and anger is quite different. She does not want to draw attention to herself but she feels she must speak.) My friends. I am but a woman. I am not a Jewess. I know little of this Jehovah that our guide speaks of but I have learned during this short time together that our guide is sincere. I trust him. He has kept us safe and his care for us, even though he knows we are not Jews is admirable. I had much fear and confusion myself when we started on this journey. I had no idea we would be gone so long and the time has seemed to pass quickly, as if in a dream. I told those in my household that I was going on a journey and so I will not be missed but soon I must return. The gods of our people are many Amos, this is true and, Jeremy, they do seem worthless, I agree. The priests and priestesses of the temples seem to, just like those our guide laments of in the Jewish temple, only have their hands out, seeking the offerings while giving nothing in return. I have gone through the motions, some part of me hoping they would prove to be true but they have never done so. Yet, when I listened to the Baptist, when I went into the water and even when I saw this Jesus, I felt hope spring up within me again. Did you not feel any of that? I know that I can never become a Jew, nor do I want to but this Jehovah our trustworthy guide speaks of may not require that. Can it be that one such as me, one who has lived for her own pleasure and comfort, could be accepted by Him and make Himself real to me in a way that my gods have never been able to manifest? It is possible that our confusion and disbelief is proof that Jehovah is a true God. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
