Our guide has been gracious beyond measure to welcome us into his spacious dwelling here in Gadara. His servants seem well versed in the proper care of his guests. He shows disappointment and sadness over the course of direction his fellow members of the High Council have taken over the years. He's right, you know. But I don't know what he thinks he can do about it. For our kind host to speak of such things to us here on this veranda is a courageous, yet dangerous oration to make. He says he knows each of us and has reason for us to embark on this journey with him. I don't know how a member of the Sanhedrin could possibly know of me or where I come from, but I do indeed admire his openness and his trust in us. Look over there in the distance, Maia and Jeremy. [pointstoward the river] That is the Jordan and to the left, far away is Lake Galilee. You can barely make it out. Ah, our host is coming this way. He is dividing the gathering into groups of three for the journey to the river. Shall the three of us travel together? |
